My students live in Southern California, surrounded by the entertainment industry, but their everyday lives are not the glamorous vision you see in movies. They are sweet and wonderful children, the sons and daughters of hard working and caring first and second generation immigrants who struggle every day for their piece of the American dream. These kids are growing up in the shadow of several music and movie studios, yet they do not have access to the latest technology for listening to that music or making their own movies. They are fortunate to attend our school, a public school that has been serving the neighborhood for over 100 years. We have a great staff and amazing families, but because we are a public school in a state with severe economic problems, our students are in need of resources and supplies that we simply cannot afford. These children are Digital Natives and they deserve the latest tools to inspire and enhance their learning experience.
