85% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunch. These Northern Californian, small town children are from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Many of the kids do not speak English as their primary language.
The children are excited about the Healthy Lifestyle program and they are willing to embrace working-out hard and making healthy food choices.
There is a group of kids who volunteer to write-up the nutrition jokes, riddles, songs, and tongue twisters for the others. They even write songs and perform them for the kindergartners. The most recent song was the "Apple Rap".
