My students come from the largest Native Hawaiian community in the world, and they are exploring what it means to be Hawaiian in a world that is shrinking fast. Through this project, we hope to not only establish student's individual identity, but develop their cultural identity and create a legacy of aloha that perpetuates our Na Mea Waiwai (values).
Many of the students at my school are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, and we are a Title I school. We try to make the best of what we have, and with this project, my students will have access to resources that will level the playing field and allow my students to develop the skills and strategies they will need to be college and career ready after high school.
