In our classroom every minute matters. From the personal greeting they receive walking through the door every morning to the, "I can't wait to see you tomorrow" they hear as they leave these scholars are engaged in learning 100% of the time. This coming school year I want to make the 4 C's of 21st century learning the core of my teaching. Communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking are essential pieces of these scholars' futures. With your support in providing the necessary supplies for STEAM activities and challenges I can prepare them for the rapidly changing future that awaits them.
STEAM environments allow students to be innovative thinkers and create life long learners. Making this an experience scholars can be immersed in on a daily basis is crucial to academic, social, and emotional growth. STEAM challenges gives students opportunities to ask higher order thinking questions, dig deeper into their own learning, and be problem solvers.
My ideas for this project are endless but here are some highlights:
1. Building a maze on the building board that a marble must travel successfully through from start to finish.
2. Using Popsicle sticks and clothes pins to build the tallest tree for monkeys to climb.
3. Using play-doh or Kinetic sand to build a sand castle that would protect dinosaurs.
4. Use Picasso tiles to design their own creative masterpiece and explain how they would use it.
Plus anything else a creative innovator in our classroom may want to accomplish.
