A classroom rug will be a gathering spot and focal point in our room. It will allow us to leave our seats and move to another area of the room. We will use this for whole group instruction as a place to meet and share ideas. We will also be developing our speaking, social, and communication skills as we interact there. I especially like that this rug will provide each student with his/her own special place to call their own while doing our daily stretching and exercising.
There are many benefits to incorporating movement throughout the school day. Students will be less fidgety and more engaged. They can focus more easily on learning. This can increase students’ readiness to learn and retention of information. The seat cushions will help my students who have a difficult time staying seated in their chairs or the floor by allowing them to move their body in less noticeable and safer ways all while developing their core strength. They will get their daily 60 minutes of exercise without even knowing it!
