My goal is to build a classroom that is rich in conversation, collaboration, and community. From a morning message that greets my students as they walk in the door, to read-alouds, reading and math workshop, and writing instruction, a new easel will allow all of my students to engage equally with new academic content. This easel is mobile and will allow me to hang chart paper and pocket charts, as well as write messages, and model instruction. With the addition of an easel to our classroom, my students will be able to come up and share their ideas, discover new information, and actively participate in learning with the classmates around them.
This project will positively impact my students as learners. When they are able to read, write, compute, and share their own ideas, they will actively grow into their own scholarly identities. With this easel, I will be able to develop lessons that are engaging and relevant to my students. The materials and curriculum will become a part of our classroom community, in which each student can construct his/her own knowledge through actively participating and creating new meanings.
