This project, Sound Clouds, is designed to incorporate the engineer design process. In order to complete this project, students must first design and map out what the final project will look like and how it will work. They must learn to cooperate and delegate in order to complete the project.
This hands on project is perfect for my students, as it incorporates science, math and engineering. My students learn best when engaged in fun projects that teach the concepts, without them realizing at first what they are accomplishing. Most of them have never worked with electronics or coded. To be able to incorporate my science, math and coding lessons together, will give them a true sense of pride when they see the clouds light up in reaction to their sounds!
First we will use the paper lanterns to create the structure of the clouds, add the LED lights and then the "Fluff" of the clouds. We will then connect the Microcontroller, breadboard and sound sensor. Once coded, our clouds will react to loud sounds in the classroom by flashing lights. This will also work as a noise monitoring device during class!
