I have a diverse set of students who face more struggles at home than I would hope of such young children. Yet every day, they come to school excited and willing to share what they have and know. It breaks my heart, when I have students who have not read that week, because they say there are no books at home to read. They love learning through stories and interacting with a text. Most of the students often struggle over the decoding and then it becomes harder to get to the message behind the story unless they are listening to someone read with them.
