My kids are wonderful! They have many struggles they face daily being in an urban area, many of them from broken homes, all of them challenged by a disability of some sort. They attend a large, urban high school in California (the only public one in the city)! There are 4,000 students and about 300 teachers. It is difficult to build community, but we work very hard to achieve it! Including a cooking club where we cook and eat together like a family, as well as a social group where we have pizza and discuss teen issues with them and brainstorm problem solving techniques. Many of my students have issues with basic skills and social skills and need as much support as possible in navigating high school academically and socially!
