Welcome to Mrs. Stairs' page! I teach at Larrymore Elementary, a Title I school in Norfolk, VA. Many of our children come from low-income and single-parent homes. One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I strive to bring the curriculum to life so that our students can make connections and have a deeper understanding, however, this is often hard without real-world or hands-on experience. Our district is underfunded and our grade level has only a small budget for field trips or in-house visitors. We must ask students' families to pay for any extra experiences that don't come out of the textbook. Unfortunately, this can be a tough request for parents with little to no income. Please help me give my students experiences that will help them master the knowledge and skills we ask of them, in turn, becoming caring, capable, more productive members of society. Thank you.
