The high interest books at a lower level will enhance the reluctant readers interest in reading. My students reading comprehension skills are lower then those of their peers. They strive to be like their peers when making book selections but often pick books that are difficult to read. The graphic novels and high interest books will help my students work on their skills while not standing out from their peers.
To find a love of reading is easier with a high interest lower level book that resembles their peers books for my students. I want my students to create a love of reading which will only increase their love of thinking outside the box. I know these books will be a great addition to our classroom literacy library.
I choose books that are relevant to the 5th grade curriculum and interest of my students. I have chosen the graphic novels DC super heroes for the self selection silent reading time in classrooms. The historic books are to help when students are learning about American History this year. I chose the spin books for when we study point of view and comprehension skills. The fiction and non-fiction book are to give some variety to my students self selected reading time. I look forward to sharing these books with my students.
