Studies indicate that 20-30% of children with autisms will be unable to communicate their wants, needs, and thoughts verbally. The iPads will serve as augmentative and alternative communication strategies (AAC) and provide my students with an opportunity to express themselves and have a voice. The iPads will not only serve as a communication device, but also as a learning tool and as a reward to increase student motivation and participation as well. My students have behavior issues that are characteristic of autism. The iPad will help develop individualize social stories to help the students to cope with their behaviors. It will also allow the students to take photos for use in our classroom newsletter to keep the parents informed about all the exciting things we are doing in class.
