My classroom has a very small amount of manipulatives for math instruction. Many of my second graders still need to use concrete items such as these manipulative when learning new math concepts! These manipulatives will help my students create the mental pictures that they need to gain a good foundation in math. This will also help them become more confident in math as many of them struggle and are not confident in math! Place value is one math concept that second graders are still working on as well as time and money! Many of these manipualtives will also be used for math games. We currently only have about 5 math games in the classroom!
Every item in my cart will help my students learn many different math concepts. The dice and counters will be used for many different math games that students will play to reinforce already learned concepts and introduce new topics. The teaching place value kit and unifix cubes will help student understand the concept of place value and also aid them in learning how to add and subtract with regrouping. Second graders also learn money and time. The teacher clock and student clocks will give us the opportunity to move the clock around to study time. The plastic coins will give students the opportunity to differentiate between each coin and learn to count it.
