Our students want to be engaged in their learning. They do not always want to be just sitting and getting information. They would like to be involved with the process and able to move around. They would like to do math which is practical with their interests, instead of learning math that they may never use again. We have several students going on to other post-secondary colleges, but we also have several going into specialty schools like Welding, Vocational, and Technical or into the workforce. We work on problem-solving skills along with presentation skills to help them in each of those endeavors. Math fluency is obtained through students being able to use math in their conversation and demonstrating it to others. They do better with immediate feedback from peers and the teacher. The more opportunities I can give them in the classroom, the more opportunities they will have when they graduate.
