My students are amazing young people. They are a very diverse group with a wide range of backgrounds. Some of them come from a family that places a high value on education and are expected to go to college, and some are just struggling to make it through high school. Some come to school in the latest designer jeans, and some come to school in the same wrinkled outfit every day. A large percentage of my students are on free or reduced lunch and may come to school hungry, or maybe they got no sleep the night before because they are working to help support their family. However, one thing I have noticed about my students is that regardless of their background, they all support each other. They recognize that they are part of a larger family and they help each other out. They are kind and generous to each other and respectful to the adults around them. My students must pass a state test in order to graduate, so they know they must take my class seriously, but we also have a lot of fun!
