My students are some of the most hardworking, inquisitive, delightful people who genuinely want to learn and succeed. My students come from predominantly low-income, Spanish-speaking homes. Many live in a single-parent or guardian household or have parents that are unable to extend learning after school from working multiple jobs.
Teachers at Nixon Elementary are working hard to redefine what urban education looks like for our scholars by combating the high cost of disengagement and providing them with high-quality, competitive, engaging, and relevant instruction and learning opportunities that will teach them to be inquisitive, lifelong learners, not merely students able to regurgitate facts or pass an examination.
