This coming school year, I will be a proud teacher at a new school in an inner city. I'm happy to learn that I will be teaching students who fit a demographic similar to the students I taught this past year. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of my students-to-be this summer. One of the most important things you need to know about my students is that they are good-natured, community-oriented, sense-making students. Not only are my students driven to succeed against all odds, they are driven to help their peers succeed as well. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and most of them are categorized as "high needs" students, meaning they have a disability, are an English Language Learner, or come from a low-income home. Undoubtedly, many of my students experience violence and instability in their home lives. However, I've never met a group of people who are easier to love, respect, or admire.
