My classes typically consist of Hispanic and African American children, most of which live in poverty. Some have behavioral issues. In general, my students are lacking real life experiences that provide background knowledge and would spark creativity. The majority of my students enter 5th grade below level in all subjects. Most of them want to be successful but simply lack the resources at home.
