Scholastic News magazines are an amazing resource for children. The students in my classroom would greatly benefit from having this resource available for instruction. I know they would be excited to have a magazine written for kids that belongs to them and that they could take home when finished.
These articles connect students with relevant and interesting events in the world around them, while continuously building and strengthening their literacy skills. These magazines would be used in whole class and small group instruction daily. They include topics that many of my low income students may not hear about otherwise, introducing them to what life is like in other parts of the world and preparing them to be global citizens of the 21st century.
