I am a first year classroom teacher so we are building our math classroom community from scratch. HAPA 6th graders consist of a wide range of math learners, so math games are part of our daily routine. We use basic supplies (cards and dice) to play addition, subtraction, and multiplication games.
The geometric Magna-Tiles I've selected were used in my old district's library and offered such wonderful opportunities for students to engage with geometry, perimeter, area, and volume and have FUN with it. I vowed to find a way to supply my math students with these learning tools at HAPA.
The other items are to create an organized and comfortable learning environment, especially for our developing classroom library. We received a generous book donation from Half Price Books, so we are creating a classroom library! My scholars requested books for study hall, after testing, and to read at home. Now they will have math games and/or reading library books to choose from when they are done with their homework or standardized testing.
THANK YOU in advance from my students and I for any materials you are able to provide.
