In Ms. Leslie's art room students explore creativity through hands-on activities in a variety of media as they develop their own artistic skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, graphics, calligraphy, and sculpture. Theory is introduced to further elaborate upon ideas about color, perspective, and design. We will discuss artists, artwork, and technique to develop the four strands of art education: art appreciation, art history, art production, and art criticism; as well as problem-solving and critical thinking skills. In our classroom we affirm that the arts are fundamental to every child's development, that the arts convey knowledge, meaning and skills not learned through the study of other subjects, and that art can be used to enhance understanding of other subjects. In Ms. Leslie's Art Room students learn to be a positive and constructive team member, develop leadership skills and effective communication skills.
