My students will use the garden to help teach the younger grades (k-5) about healthy eating, taking care of nature, and growing food. Students will be able to plant several different types of each vegetable or fruit in order to show students the different varieties that they may have not seen in the grocery store.
As the garden grows the students will too. Students will have the chance to see first hand the different symbiotic relationships there are. This will be accomplished by companion gardening as well as the bugs that come live in the garden. They will use the garden to calculator things like area and volume in math.
The garden will also be used to help students feel connected to their school community. This will help them become more self confident and this new found confidence will spill over into academics.
