I have been teaching the alphabet for what seems like the entire year and now that most of students have it down we are beginning to read words. The use of visuals is very helpful since most of their first language is not English.
While visuals are important students need to experience creating the words. The use of magnets will give them the opportunity to do this and then, they can practice writing them as well. This activity is appropriate for their overall development which is includes their fine motor skills.
I also only have four computers in my classroom and that is not enough during center time since there are groups of five in my classroom. For this reason the tablet would be such as great addition to our classroom.
We will soon be starting addition and subtraction which is why I have chosen the magnetic ten frame boards. They provide a great visual tool for students and can practice writing and reading their equations in a hands-on way.
