At Holmes Elementary School in Vernon, California, I serve as an instructional coach supporting teachers and students in a community just south of downtown Los Angeles. Many of our students are Brown and Black children living in an economically challenged housing area, where families face significant hardships, including food insecurity and limited access to books, technology, and enrichment opportunities. I serve in a community where 100% of students receive free meals.
I work closely with teachers to strengthen instruction in literacy, math, science, and the arts so every child receives engaging, high-quality lessons. However, many of our classrooms lack the hands-on materials and resources students need to fully participate and succeed.
