My students range in age from 5-7 and are in a self-contained classroom for children with autism. They are smart, energetic and loving and they are on varying levels of the spectrum. Our school is a Title I school with 522 students of which 449 are on free/reduced lunch status. It is located in a region of the city where poverty, illiteracy, family dysfunction, homelessness, gangs, school dropouts, crime and violence are prevalent.
