I am seeking funding to help towards the APS CLL-Grow. Lead. Transform Mini-Grant. Atlanta Public Schools' vision is a high performing school district where students love to learn, educators inspire, families engage, and the community trusts the system. The materials in my project supports this vision because the students will utilize the Legos to create an environment in the K-2 STEM lab that will allow them to explore and learn through play.
This project will foster my STEM students love for learning and support my idea that every student is unique and deserves an opportunity for self-discovery. My K-2 STEM lab focuses on students' using technology and engineering. The K-2 STEM students are constructing a planetarium and we need the planetarium light to project the what they learn about the Stars, Sun, Moon, and Earth. This is our Science Unit. This project supports APS' vision of getting families engage because students are sharing their STEM experiences with parents. Parents are excited about what is being learned and our parental involvement is increasing within our school. This project also supports APS vision of the community trusting the system. The Osmos will be utilized in the K-2 STEM after school club. Our school partners volunteer weekly in the STEM lab and can use the technology when assisting students.
There is a need for all the materials because I am exposing my students to various technology and the skills that involve critical thinking and problem solving. The students will use the materials to create innovative projects, express their ideas, and apply what they've learned daily. There is a need because it will help me continue to develop new ideas in my lessons . Lastly, there is a need because it will support my Science and Mathematics standards while using technology.
