My school is a Title I school located in rural Kentucky. The students I serve are wonderful 5th graders, who work hard every day to achieve their academic goals. While we do our best to accommodate all of their needs, we face the devastating realization that we live in a community with the following rates: 82.5% poverty and a 17% unemployment rate. These facts and the unthinkable environments many of our students face on a daily basis make the roles of students and educator very difficult. However, even with the trials they may face, our students achieve among the highest in the state and have been given National recognition by receiving a Blue Ribbon award.
