For the end of the year, we want to turn our traditional classroom into one that supports flexible seating. Right now, we have desks in rows, which does not allow for much movement or collaboration. Flexible seating will allow my students to have different seating choices. I will use the bed risers to make 4 standing desks. I will also have wobble chairs and bouncy balls at 10 desks. That way, students can get their energy out in small movements while they work, as about 20% of my students have an ADHD diagnosis. The lap trays are for students who prefer to work sitting on the ground. Finally, because we will no longer have assigned desks, we will use the book bins to store our materials.
After I explained the idea for flexible seating to my students, they were practically jumping for joy!
I have given them a lot of ownership in this process and they have picked out all of the furniture and supplies I am asking to be funded. My school district has a very tight budget; therefore, I am looking to get funds from you all. Please help out my sweet, wiggly students!
