Flexible seating allows students to make choices that best suits their learning style. All my students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive when they are given a choice of where to work. During Station Time, every morning, my students rotate through these choices so that during Independent Work time they can make a more informed decision about which seating best suits them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: staying at their desk, using crate stools at other tables, sitting at a carpet area with clip boards, or standing at a high top table.
Our only issue is the pressing need for comfort. We are in a classroom with a very thin carpet, so the floor is only comfortable for short periods. Students at the high top tables would love a place to rest on a stool, even if it is for a few moments. The new reading corner would be much more inviting and cozy with bean bag chairs.
The products that I have selected will provide my students with additional seating options in order to make more effective learning choices. The adjustable stools will allow students to sit at higher tables, but will still allow some movement. Students can work and get their wiggles out, and the stool can be used as an alternative chair if needed! The four soft floor seats can be moved from my low table to anywhere in the classroom and the bean bag chair will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options in the reading corner!
I have seen how choice can positively affect learning and attitudes. I hope that the additional seating options will make my classroom a more inviting and engaging place to learn and grow!
