There is a ton of research being done about flexible seating in the classroom and how much it benefits students academically and behaviorally. So when this idea was proposed by my principal, I quickly researched and looked into ways to adapt my classroom to meet the needs of my students. There are multiple students with disabilities and ADHD, so flexible seating would allow them and others to choose which seat will help them focus and complete various tasks.
When students get to choose between standing, sitting on the floor, an exercise ball, or rocking chair, this helps them to engage and release the built-up energy that kids naturally always seem to have!
