My students NEED to read about real issues that interest them and that they may be able to relate to. While there is a place for Romeo and Juliet and The Odyssey, there also needs to be a place for literature that is filled with characters that look like them and are facing problems that they are facing. Tyrell by Coe Booth is such a book. This award winning young adult book will give my students the extra push they need to grow their confidence as a reader.
