My aspiration is to make our room a place where everyone can be successful.
To achieve this, I asked my students, "How can I make this classroom an even better place for you to learn?" The overwhelming response was that students wanted to have comfortable seating options and choice in which would help them learn best.
From this desire, I adjusted our classroom design with our students' input last year. They requested small groups which has been great this year!
By sitting in small groups they are able to wiggle, move and meet new classmates. We built a classroom community. As a google classroom students are able to work independently as well as collaborate with each other. Having a flexible seating environment will enhance our current google classroom.
Flexible seating has been shown to raise testing scores, build a classroom community and friendly learning environment.
We had limited resources, but tried to think outside the box and allow students the opportunity to discover how they learn best. We found that the most popular seating options were those in which students could wiggle or bounce, and it really helped them to focus their attention as well. In addition, it helped teach my students about an active lifestyle and helped them improve their overall well being.
We would like to continue this project this year with high-quality seating options such as the rocking chairs, bean bags and other seating options that will really allow our students to focus, build core strength and feel comfortable in our classroom.
Help us make learning fun!
