Elementary students can take control of their mental concentration when they can refocus some of their energy in physical movement - like sitting on a wobble chair. We are requesting ten in total for our science classroom to create spaces for flexible seating and group work.
Flexible seating sets the tone for a collaborative space and working environment. While lessons can be planned with the 4C's (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) in mind, the classroom environment is the center stage and must complement the task and objectives at hand. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs helps support the idea that students need to feel comfortable and safe in order to be successful. Comfortable, flexible seating promotes both comfort and safety and encourages student engagement and learner agency.
