Because of the low socioeconomic status and high ESOL population, most of our students do not have computers or any other technology devices at home to learn the skills they need to be 21st Century Learners.
This will allow them to get a better exposure to technology than they would have otherwise in order to help close the achievement gap between them and students at more fortunate living areas. Due to many parents being non-English speaking or undereducated, homework is not assigned so that students can not continue practicing at home. It would be great if students could use the Kindles to reinforce their learning when they first arrive at school or at the end of the school day.
It could also be used throughout the school day to do research, practice typing, play education games, photograph real life activities instead of having to draw them.
