Our elementary recently received a grant from the Iowa STEM Council to start a STEM makerspace in our library. This is a completely new initiative that we are looking forward to implementing with our students. We received some great resources and materials but are looking to round out the variety of tools in which we have to offer. Our hope is that by providing opportunities for STEM making and discovery, our students will gain knowledge and understanding of these critical areas while also engaging students in different ways to meet individual needs.
With the addition of a 3D printer, our STEM makerspace will have many of the necessary components to provide our students with the tools to create and be makers for the remainder of their school years and into their lives as adults. Our goal is to give our kids the support, materials, and opportunities they may or may not receive outside of school and apply it to their learning and their own lives now and in the future.
