This year I would like to try alternative/flexible seating in my 3rd grade classroom. Students can often focus more and stay engaged longer when they are comfortable. I believe it's important for students to have choices and freedom in finding comfortable spaces around the classroom to work throughout the day.
The more choices students have the more they will take ownership and responsibility for their learning.
Students often work in pairs or small groups throughout the day and providing flexible seating choices will allow my students to move around the room more freely. Active Learning Stools are lightweight and can be moved easily. They also allow students to twist or fidget if needed to stay engaged.
