This project pays for eight Chromebooks for our 6th grade classroom.
Introducing our students to cutting edge computer skills will open tremendous doors for them and help prepare them for higher education and future careers.
With these Chromebooks, we will bring into the classroom everything computers have to offer--from computer programing to collaborative writing; from around-the-world research to multimedia presentations. Our students will gain the skills to succeed in the digital age.
Part of our plan with the Chromebooks is to completely revamp our classroom writing. Students will learn how to use Google Docs to write, edit, and collaborate with others on their writing assignments. The Chromebooks will allow teachers to give students feedback on their writing in real time. They will streamline the writing process, allowing students to revise their writing in much greater detail and complete their writing assignments in a shorter time frame. Using Google Docs in our classroom will also give parents the opportunity to see the writing process in action and encourage their children as they improve their writing skills.
Finally, these Chromebooks will be used regularly to teach kids how to conduct research. We will guide students as they learn how to design a search, how to know if a resource is reliable, and how to skim through an article for information they need. This is an invaluable skill that can only be learned with a tremendous amount of practice and guidance. Having regular and reliable access to technology will provide this practice time and help prepare our students for life beyond Lolo School.
