Sewing will enable my students the opportunity to be creative using math in a real world application. My students will be able to problem solve by working together and sharing ideas to create sewing products. Students will have to apply many math ideas and analyze their application of the ideas in order to create products. I will have my students showcase their work and educate others about math topics through their sewing experience. Through sewing, my students will be able to relate many math ideas to the real world and test it themselves in a scientific method.
Students need interactive and self-driven opportunities to take what they have learned and turn it into a creative experience that empowers them to get excited about what they are learning in their classes. This will bring excitement and spark a new way of thinking for many of my students in regards to math, which makes me thankful to have Donors Choose and all donors to help aid my efforts in engaging students critically into dynamic experiences that will leave a lasting affect on my students. Through sewing, I will be able to also equip my students with a life skill that will make them more well rounded through new activities since none of my students have ever sewn.
I look forward to inviting parents, teachers, and mentors to take part in sewing with all the students as well in order to create lasting relationships where students get to work with the adults in their lives in a creative and positive activity.
