My students live in a broad, spread-out collection of rural communities, commuter neighborhoods, and an old mining town--all about an hour from the nearest shopping mall or movie theater.
Their homes range from upscale wood cabins in a gated community, to uninsulated trailer homes. At least half of my students receive free and reduced lunches, and many families struggle to meet their basic needs.
We live in a small community here in these mountains, and I'm blessed to know each student individually, and most of their families as well. I see their needs, and using this site is one small way that I can begin to help meet them.
