I teach Computer & Tech Literacy to the 4th-8th graders at Mary Lyon Elementary School. We focus on building strong foundational skills so that all students feel confident and competent when they sit in front of a computer. There is a strong focus on proper typing skills throughout all grades. The students build their skills in Google Apps and Microsoft Office, so that they are fully prepared to succeed in high school and beyond. We also learn about the basics of troubleshooting and computer repair, internet safety and digital citizenship, and introductions to coding and graphic design.
As we build our technology program, I hope to expand our resources and abilities to include extensive units on more advanced graphic design and coding programs, as well as 3-D modelling and printing, so that my students are able to see these as viable, attainable careers in the future.
