Our school is a Title One school in a predominantly Hispanic community. Our community is a border town where the majority of the community is of low socioeconomic status. Many of our students are first generation college bound students. One of our growing concerns is that graduation rates have fallen drastically in the last few years. For the 2016-2017 school year, Leadership students will be designing and implementing a program to motivate their peers to become involved in school activities. The Alliance for Student Activity has provided research based statistics which show that becoming involved lowers students drop out rate and increases overall success of students. Students in our community need positive reinforcement and many times an safe environment which they can turn to for support and guidance, things they many not have at home for many reasons.
