I teach in a low income neighborhood in Chicago. Most of the students in my class are English language learners that come from very diverse background. They arrive eager to learn and excited to spend time with their fellow classmates. The students love to spend time in the library exploring books and reading with their friends.
At the beginning of the year we explore our classroom library and I share some of my favorite books with the students. I also introduce them to some of our reading buddies. These buddies are some of the characters from our library books. They always enjoy reading and sharing books with these characters.
