My students come from middle schools that serve high need neighborhoods in Baltimore City. They are creative and charismatic, relishing opportunities to show their skills. Yet many have not yet built a self-concept that associates learning with something they like to do.
My goal in the classroom is to help students see learning as an activity that is pleasurable in itself, and not just a hoop to jump through for extrinsic rewards. I want to use technology to create more flow-based experiences that provide immediate feedback. With more opportunities for independent practice and mastery, students can begin to see learning as something they enjoy
