I teach in a school where over 90% of the students qualify for free/reduced price lunch. While most of my students are thinking about college, they would be the first in their families to attend. They carry so much stress from their home lives that I am truly impressed with their perseverance. I want them to see their full potential in college and that means giving them a solid foundation of math skills. Frankly, class time might be the only time when I have their attention during the day. They work. They watch their siblings. I want their math time to be interesting and applicable to their lives. I try to be creative in designing activities that have them interact with others and move around. I see the Internet as another way to spark their interest in math and as an additional path to provide good math foundation for college life and beyond.
