My students are a part of the 50/50 dual language program at our school. All the students are taught fifty percent of the time in Spanish (by my partner) and the other fifty percent of the time in English (by me). The students are mostly native Spanish speakers but there are also some native English speakers in the program. The goal is that the students will be fluent, and literate, in both English and Spanish.
Our students come from an area that is mostly low-income (three-quarters of homes). Unfortunately, some of our students enjoy 'comforts' such as electricity, running water, a complete meal and a feeling of safety that they do not get at home. All of our students are extremely appreciative of the tools and equipment we have available to us to make learning fun.
