I teach 3rd grade in an inner city school. Most of my students say "I don't like to read". I want to provide them a variety of books to spark their interest in reading.
My philosophy on reading reflects one of my favorite authors, "If you don't like to read, then you haven't found the right book." I want to expand my classroom library to include different genres, with a focus on character development. I also want to include books about inventors and people who have made a positive impact on the world. I especially want to add books with an African American protagonist. My students need relatable books with a main character with which they can identify.
