This year I am implementing a literature rich curriculum called Units of Study. Research has shown the many benefits of reading; The American Library Association has found a strong connection between daily independent reading habits and overall student performance.
One of the main principles of Units of Study is that readers need long stretches of time to read, both at school and at home. Multiple studies support that even a small amount of independent reading increases primary and elementary students’ reading comprehension, vocabulary growth, spelling facility, understanding of grammar, and knowledge of the world.
The Buddy Book Bags will be used as a means of transporting books between school and home. They are durable and will protect our books so that many students can enjoy them. More reading = student success!
