My students are in dire need of materials that foster cognates from Spanish to English, as they build their vocabulary. The requested read along books are at different levels and will be matched specifically with students that are on that level. I am going to have colored bins each with a different cd player, headphone, and leveled book in them. During center time they can hear books being read aloud with prosody and intonation.
One of the special things about books being read aloud is that it creates an atmosphere of comfort and my students from Puerto Rico need that as they have nothing to show for after the storm. The over-the-ear headphones will allow for minimal distractions as the scholars delve into books that pertain to their liking. Lastly, have you ever seen all the workbooks required of 3rd graders. It is overwhelming and we need seat pockets to help make sort important materials that they will need throughout the day. I would like to keep pertinent materials in the seat sacks such as; writing folders, dictionaries, necessary writing tools, journals, and interactive notebooks. This way, they won't get smushed and ruined in the depths of their desk.
