My students love to spend time reading in class each week. Having a variety of books to read with familiar stories helps them make progress in reading comprehension and vocabulary development. Students get to choose the book they want to read each week. The more books there are to choose from, the better. Since I often have these students for four or five years in a row, we need lots of books and magazines for them to read over the years. I have about 15 books now at a novice to intermediate level, and I'm hoping to double that this year.
