NYC students have been stuck at home for 1+ years. Some students are entering the building for the first time since March 2020. Our elementary school's students are craving connection, opportunities to be creative, and time to socialize with their peers.
We are working tirelessly to build spaces in which students can build relationships and develop social and emotional skills that they were not able to practice during remote learning. We are hoping to bolster up their self-esteem, conflict-resolution and communication skills with this counseling group. We want to create a space in which they are celebrated for positive behaviors. With therapy games, sensory toys, books and art supplies, we want to bolster their self-esteem and support them in developing an "I can" attitude. We want to provide a space in which they see that everyone is struggling to adjust, and their school is here to support them.
